A Little Shop With a Big Heart

October 7, 2026

You never quite know what you’re going to find. It might be a favourite top, something for the home, a little treasure you weren’t looking for, or simply a good bargain.

At Birch Foundation Op Shop, you can take your time, enjoy a drink or a treat from our coffee bar, have a browse and feel right at home.

But behind the things on our shelves, there’s an even bigger story.

It’s the story of people helping people.

Every item donated to us has been given by someone who decided it could still be useful. Every person who shops with us gives that item another life. And every purchase helps Birch Foundation continue supporting people in our community who may be going through a difficult time.

More Than What’s on the Shelves

Our Op Shop is an important part of Birch Foundation, but what happens here goes well beyond shopping.

It’s a place where people stop in for a browse and a chat. You can look through our pre-loved finds, enjoy a drink or something sweet from our coffee bar, and spend a little time with us.

It’s also where donations arrive from people who simply want to do something kind, and where our team and volunteers sort and prepare items so they can find a new home.

And sometimes, it’s a place where someone can find a little practical help when they need it most.

That sense of community is what makes the shop special to us.

Giving Things a Second Chance

We see so many wonderful donations come through our doors.

Clothing that no longer fits. Household items that are no longer needed. Things that have been sitting in a cupboard waiting for someone else to use them.

Rather than going to waste, those items can begin another chapter

A donated jacket might become someone else’s favourite. Something for the home might be exactly what another person has been searching for. And the money raised through our Op Shop helps us continue the wider work of Birch Foundation.

It’s a simple cycle of giving, but it can have a real impact.

Community Is at the Heart of It

Birch Foundation works alongside people experiencing hardship, disadvantage and social isolation, providing practical assistance while creating opportunities for connection.

Our Op Shop is part of that bigger picture.

We have free bread available to the community on Tuesdays, and through our Thursday Give Back initiative, eligible community members can receive practical support through the Op Shop.

Beyond our doors, our team and volunteers regularly head out into the community through our outreach in Surfers Paradise, Southport and Nerang.

Different activities, different days and different people — but the heart behind them is the same.

To be there for our community in practical ways, while treating every person with dignity and respect.

Every Visit Helps

You don’t need to do something enormous to make a difference.

Sometimes it looks like dropping off a bag of good-quality clothes you no longer wear.

Sometimes it’s choosing to shop pre-loved instead of buying new.

And sometimes it’s simply popping in, finding a bargain, enjoying a drink or a treat, and having a friendly chat.

Those small acts of support add up, and we are genuinely grateful for every person who chooses to be part of what we do.

So next time you’re in Southport, come and have a look around. Take your time, see what treasures you can find, enjoy something from our coffee bar and say hello to our team.

You might find something you love.

And while you’re here, you’ll be helping us continue doing something we love too — supporting our community and bringing a little more hope into someone’s day.
