Whatever suits you. Some volunteers come every week, others once a fortnight. The main thing is being regular, so people get to know your face. Street outreach runs in the evenings from 7:30pm to 8:45pm, and op shop shifts are during the day, Monday to Friday.
Absolutely. Plenty of people come along with a friend, and we love having work teams join us for volunteering days, events and BBQ fundraisers. Just let us know when you sign up, or email volunteer@birchfoundation.org.au.
We take safety seriously. On outreach you're always with experienced volunteers and never on your own, and we'll talk you through how the night works before your first shift.
Yes, absolutely. Birch Foundation was started by someone who's lived through homelessness, and lots of our volunteers have done it tough too. That lived experience is valued here, and it means a lot to the people we meet.
