Domestic violence is a heartbreaking reality that affects far too many individuals and families across the Gold Coast. It comes in many forms—physical, emotional, financial, and even spiritual—and its impact can last long after the abuse ends. What’s important to remember is simple: domestic violence is never OK.
The Reality in Our Community
Sadly, the Gold Coast has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in Queensland. Every week, local families are torn apart by abuse that leaves deep scars—seen and unseen. Victims often feel trapped, isolated, and afraid to reach out for help. Many stay silent out of fear, shame, or because they believe there’s nowhere to turn.
At Birch Foundation, we want to make one thing clear: you are not alone. Support is out there, and there are safe pathways to move forward.
Breaking the Silence
One of the most powerful ways to end domestic violence is to speak up. Talking about it helps break the cycle of secrecy and gives victims the courage to step forward. It also encourages friends, family, and neighbours to be more aware of the signs—like withdrawal, sudden financial stress, or visible fear around a partner.
By raising awareness, we can help create a community where abuse is recognised and challenged, not hidden.
How Birch Foundation Helps
While we are not a crisis service, Birch Foundation supports victims of domestic violence by providing practical relief and connecting them to the right organizations. Through our charity hub in Bundall, we offer:
- Care Packages with essential items like clothes, food, and toiletries.
- Free Shopping in our op shop and café for those in hardship.
- Legal Advice through our partner, Oracle Law Australia.
- Safe Space to talk, connect, and be referred to other trusted support services such as Salvation Army, Jirah Impact, and 4Voices.
Our mission is to stand alongside those experiencing hardship and help them find a way forward.
